CLIMATE RESILIENCE THROUGH CONTINUOUS COVER FORESTRY
Continuous cover forestry preserves carbon in both trees and soil better than clear-cut-based forestry. Clear-cutting, in turn, turns the forest soil into a carbon source for decades (Luonnonvarakeskuksen uutinen 14.8.2025). The coming decades are crucial for mitigating climate change. This is why the EverCover Certificate is also a good choice from a climate perspective.
Harvesting methods in continuous cover forestry (so-called selective logging or small gap felling) produce both sawlogs and pulpwood, but emphasize high-quality sawlogs. Such wood is used to manufacture long-lasting wood products in which carbon is stored for a long time. In this respect as well, the EverCover Certificate guides towards more climate-resilient wood cultivation and use (Pukkala 2014).
